Brachytherapy is a form of radiation therapy where the radiation source is placed inside or next to the area requiring treatment. Brachytherapy is often used as an effective treatment for cervical, prostate, breast and skin cancer. Brachytherapy can be used alone or in combination with treatments.
Unlike, external beam radiation from outside the body, Brachytherapy dispels the radiation internal. This involves the precise placement of the radiation sources directly at the site of the cancer. Brachytherapy affects a small localized area around the radiation site; therefore radiation exposure to healthy tissue is reduced.
